Educational Qualification:

Candidates must hold or be in the final year of a Master’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized university:

  • Geologist Group A (Category I):
    Master’s in Geology, Earth Science, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Petroleum Geosciences, Geochemistry, or related fields
  • Geophysicist Group A (Category I):
    M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Marine Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, or equivalent
  • Chemist Group A (Category I):
    M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry
  • Scientist B (Hydrogeology) Group A (Category II):
    Master’s in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or Hydrogeology
  • Scientist B (Chemical) Group A (Category II):
    Master’s in Chemistry or equivalent (same as Chemist eligibility)
  • Scientist B (Geophysics) Group A (Category II):
    Same as Geophysicist eligibility
  • Assistant Hydrogeologist Group B:
    Master’s in Geology / Applied Geology / Marine Geology / Hydrogeology
  • Assistant Chemist Group B:

Examination Pattern:

Stage I – Preliminary Examination (Objective Type):

  • Paper I: General Studies – 100 Marks – 2 Hours (Common for all)
  • Paper II: Subject Specific – 300 Marks – 2 Hours
    • Geology / Geophysics / Chemistry / Hydrogeology

Stage II – Main Examination (Descriptive Type):

  • Three Papers (Stream-Specific):
    • Each Paper – 3 Hours Duration
    • Geology: Paper I, II, III
    • Geophysics: Paper I, II, III
    • Chemistry: Paper I, II, III
    • Hydrogeology: One Paper

Stage III – Personality Test / Interview:

  • Total Marks: 200
  • Criteria: Personality, leadership, analytical skill, fieldwork readiness
